Description

Crosswalk mapping every code an external authority issues to a spine entity. Many rows per entity; captures competing/overlapping identifiers and cross-authority code collisions (same string, different entities).

Columns
entity_id String Foreign key to spine.entity_id. Not unique — many codes per entity.
code_authority String Issuing authority (ISO_3166_1, ISO_3166_1_ER, ISO_3166_3, EC, CLDR, ICAO, GS1_industry, UK_gov, EU_VAT, RU_gov, CH_gov, Wikidata, mycorr).
code_type String alpha2 | alpha3 | numeric.
code_value String The code string. Not unique on its own — a value can be issued by several authorities, or denote different entities.
code_class String official | exceptionally_reserved | formerly_used | third_party | user_assigned.
notes String Free-text provenance / reservation note.
is_canonical Boolean True if this code equals the entity's cached canonical value for its code_type. Genuinely a flag, so it is a boolean rather than a 1/0 integer that looks summable.

Description

Master dimension: one row per real-world entity (sovereign state, territory, disputed area, subdivision, supranational concept, or historical entity). The lean join target — identity, codes, and name only; richer attributes are joined in from other tables on canonical_alpha2 / _alpha3.

Columns
entity_id String Self-assigned stable surrogate, minted once per entity and never reused. Seeded from the published spine so rebuilds keep it.
wikidata_qid String Wikidata item id (e.g. Q142); the natural key the ledger maps to entity_id.
canonical_alpha2 String Cached default ISO 3166-1 alpha-2. Unique where present — the primary alpha-2 join key, and what other datasets link on. Null only where an alpha-2 would be ambiguous: CS was issued to Czechoslovakia and later reused for Serbia and Montenegro, and only the most recent holder carries it. Join historical entities on canonical_alpha3 to be safe.
canonical_alpha3 String Cached default ISO 3166-1 alpha-3. Null for reserved concepts (EU/EZ/UN/EA/IC) and XI/XA/XO.
canonical_name String Short English name (Wikidata label). Not a designated key.
