Currencies

Currency, fund and precious metal codes: ISO 4217 list one, maintained and published by SIX Group as Maintenance Agency on behalf of ISO and SNV, and made available free of charge. ISO permits free use of the ISO 4217 codes; the ISO 4217 standard document itself is a separate, paid publication and is not included or reproduced here. Country↔currency associations are ISO 4217 list one's own entity groupings, re-keyed to ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 (the source publishes entity names, which it renames over time) via a hand-curated mapping maintained in this pipeline. Derived dataset, provided as is. Neither ISO, SNV nor SIX has reviewed or endorsed it.

ISO 4217 currency, fund and precious metal codes (list one): one row per code. Includes the codes no country uses (XAU gold, XDR, XXX, XTS) — code_class says what kind each is. Country usage is the country_currency table, which links to the countries spine on ISO 3166-1 alpha-2.

Description

ISO 4217 list one as a country-currency bridge: one row per (country, currency). Many-to-many both ways — EUR is used by 37 entities, and Switzerland has three codes. Keyed on ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 rather than the entity name, because ISO 4217 renames entities. Non-country entities (the organisation issuers and the ZZ pseudo-entities) are absent by design; their codes are in the currencies table.
